Our Company

MERCIA was established in 1979 by two partners, Stuart Powell G3WRA  and Bob Fisher G3PWJ. Over the years a steady and careful growth has been sustained. Initially the activities centered on the supply and servicing of Two Way Radio Equipment.

In 1980 Mercia established a service offering Base Stations, Mobiles and Hand-Portable Radios off the shelf for hire on a daily, weekly and monthly basis supplying equipment for a wide variety of applications including Motor racing, Shows Pony events, Harvesting and Regattas.

Relaxation of licensing regulations saw the introduction of the Repeater base Station. This allows up to 16 users to share one Repeater with privacy, with the benefit of mobile to mobile contact over a wide area at a reasonable cost. Mercia have established a network of VHF repeaters both high and low band located on prime site on the Malvern Hills, Clee Hill, Radnor Forest, Birdlip, Hereford.

Mercia has always kept on an independent status on offering equipment from Motorola and Tait in both cases being officially appointed dealers. We receive regular sales and technical training from the manufacturers.

In 1990 we moved to our Head Office to purpose built premises in Faraday road, Hereford. These premises include a modern installation bay and a fully equipped workshop containing a comprehensive range of test and repair facilities.

In 1994 we opened a Mobile phone shop at 79 Barbourne Road Worcester, we no longer supply Cellular mobile phones, but share with  'The Washhouse'  a white goods retailer,  with a fully equipped workshop containing a comprehensive range of test and repair facilities available on site phone 01905 613813.

1996 saw the introduction of a new service, Short Range Business Radio which went on to PMR446 in 1998, a radio system which could be used in many different European Countries at a reasonable cost.

We have developed with the cooperation of local police forces. Shop and Pub Watch radio schemes to help to reduce shoplifting crime in local towns.

Our success to date is built around our reputation for fast and effective service and we will continue to invest heavily in training, test equipment and spares to maintain the very best technical back-up possible for our valued customers.
